E-Crime Reduction Partnership

Philip Virgo, EURIM

The Digital Britain report announced the formation of an E-Crime Reduction Partnership chaired by the Rt Hon Alun Michael MP. This will work in close co-operation with the Police Central e--Crime Unit, the National Fraud Authority, the Office of Cybersecurity and those helping implement the ACPO E-Crime Strategy. The aim is to bring Government, Law Enforcement, Private Sector, (users as well as suppliers) and public interest groups together to build on that already being done, to reduce fragmentation and duplication of effort and to achieve critical mass.

The first stage of a successful crime reduction partnership is an audit of reality: to scope the scale and nature of the problems that need to be addressed and to identify the points of leverage. This is a non-trivial exercise, despite a morass of data. In parallel with planning the scoping exercise, work has started on bringing players together to support an initial portfolio of pre-launch projects to demonstrate that co-operation works. This session will describe current progress and plans.
